“I will not rescue you, for you are not powerless. I will not fix you, for you are not broken. I will not heal you, for I see you, in your wholeness. I will walk with you through the darkness as you remember your light”.

- A medicine woman’s prayer.

Our Services

Our approach to “trauma-informed care” is based on the understanding that it is our experiences and our responses to them that shape the development and functioning of our brain, mind and body. These three aspects of our human system interact with and influence each other constantly, so it doesn’t make sense to focus on only one in therapy. We offer interventions that honour the whole person - brain, mind and body.

Individual Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a unique journey for each individual. From your very first session we will work with you to understand your personal goals, values, and resources so that together we can explore interventions to support you to make truly transformative change. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, no standardised manual that can do justice to the unique human that you are. We draw upon the wisdom of the evidence-based, trauma-informed, and person-centred frameworks that resonate for us personally and that have helped so many clients achieve their therapeutic goals, our favourites being Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the most recent addition to the toolkit, Neurofeedback.

We welcome clients aged 18+ experiencing a range of concerns, including overwhelming emotions, self-defeating thinking styles, negative core beliefs, depression, anxiety, relationship and attachment issues, and trauma related reactions - including PTSD, complex PTSD, Dissociative Disorders, and BPD. We aim to be inclusive and considerate of all humans and are committed to constantly refining our competence in working in a trauma-informed and neuro-affirming way.

True transformation takes time, and we will walk with you for as long as is needed on your personal path to healing. We’re excited, honoured and humbled to be invited along!

Neurofeedback

We are excited to introduce Neurofeedback to our suite of therapeutic offerings. Neurofeedback is like gym for your brain, helping to train your brain to work more efficiently. It can help with a broad range of issues, including attention and concentration, sleep, nightmares, mood, anxiety, sensory sensitivities, migraines, stress, trauma, and addiction. It can also help optimise your brain and has been used by elite athletes and musicians to achieve peak performance!

Through a learning process known as “Operant Conditioning”, Neurofeedback rewards the brain for good behaviour! The rewards are delivered via games, pictures, and sounds on a screen, and it feels a bit like playing a video game. The brain loves getting rewards and will learn to adapt itself in order to get more.

Individual needs vary, so we will work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan - such as frequency and number of sessions. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Many people get the most benefits from a combination of talk therapy and Neurofeedback, rather than one on its own. Our clinical psychologist Tara and our Neurofeedback technician Pearce work collaboratively to support you in this process.

Good things take time, but we think that transformative change that is long lasting is worth it! Once your brain learns how to work at its best, it won’t soon forget.

See the resources section or click on the link below for a more information about this awesome brain-training tool and you will see why we love it.

Neurofeedback is suitable for children, adolescents and adults. Reach out to see if it could be a good fit for you or your child.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is our primary therapeutic modality. It’s so awesome that it deserves a section of its own! EMDR started as a trauma-focussed therapy, but we now know that it can help people with many other problems. EMDR is based on the assumption that our brain and nervous system is equipped with all the resources that we need for health and healing. It is known for its use of bilateral stimulation (BLS), often in the form of left-to-right eye movements (but it can take other forms) to facilitate healing. The BLS encourages better coordination between the logical-analytical left, and the emotional-intuitive right, hemispheres of the brain. Better integration between the two hemispheres helps you to bring new and more appropriate perspectives to old, emotionally charged memories, to discharge residual disturbing emotions, and create a greater sense of meaning and empowerment over your past, present, and future. See the resources section for a more complete explanation of this incredible therapeutic tool!

Longer sessions are recommended during processing phases of EMDR treatment, and it is also recommended that several sessions are scheduled close together for best results.

Assessments

Formal, structured assessment can be a helpful process by which to gather more detailed information about an aspect of an individual’s functioning, which in turn can enhance understanding of the particular symptoms, behaviours, or problems that someone is struggling with, guide treatment planning, and assist with accessing additional and specialised supports (e.g., NDIS). Assessments on offer include cognitive (IQ) testing, neurotype exploration, adaptive functioning, learning (e.g., literacy and numeracy), and adult attachment..

Please contact us via email to discuss your specific assessment needs so that a quote can be developed. Price varies depending on complexity of assessment and the type of report required.

Hourly rate |  $260  + GST

Please not that assessments and reports are offered to support an individual’s self understanding, to guide treatment planning, or to provide evidence as part of an application for additional supports like NDIS. ADHD assessments are happily provided to assist with these processes, but for individuals seeking medication for ADHD please be aware that not all prescribing psychiatrists will accept a diagnosis from a psychologist.

Reports for legal purposes are not available sorry!.
